The Hague Apostille

In accordance with the Hague Convention,  from 5th October 1961, the only requirement necessary for documents issued by participant countries to this Convention is an Apostille Certificate issued by the competent authority in the country of the document’s origin so that the document is accepted by Spanish officials.

The Convention adopted a document named an “Apostille,” which is internationally recognized by all member nations.

For example, some banks will accept a passport copy if it has been authenticated (legalized, certified) by a notary public, others will require that the document bears an apostille, etc.

The apostille itself is a printed form. On the top you can read APOSTILLE, where you can read the text “Hague Convention of 5 October 1961″. Following this, there are numbered fields that must be added:

* 1. Country … “the name of the country

* 2. Has been signed by … “The name of the person who signs the document that is being apostilled”

* 3. Acting in the capacity of … “function”

* 4. Bears the seal/stamp of … “authority”

* 5. At … “location where is signed”

* 6. The … “date”

* 7. By … “name”

* 8. Nº … “apostille registration number”

* 9. Seal/stamp … “of the authority giving the apostille”

* 10. Signature … “signature of authority giving the apostille”

This official stamp with all this information can be placed on the back of the document itself, or attached to the document.

The apostille certificate will be legally recognised and no additional legalisation or certification from the embassy should be required. The states/countries members of the Hague Convention and that recognise apostilles are the following:
